We are in the process of developing a comprehensive technical support section for our client stations.
The following basic information is currently available, and should solve most technical problems.
Software Requirements
Macintosh computers should be running System 7.5, 7.6, or 8.0.
PC Users should have Windows 95 or NT, although Windows 3.11 is adequate.
We recommend that you use Netscape Navigator to view this site. You should be using at least
version 3.0, but version 4.0 is even better. You can download the latest version from netscape's
website at http://home.netscape.com/comprod/mirror/index.html
In order to view the video clips, you must have at least version 4.0 of the RealVideo player, available from
progressive networks at
http://www.real.com/products/player/playerdl.html
Hardware Requirements
Any computer capable of running Netscape should be able to view the site.
Playing the video clips is more demanding, however, and requires a fairly powerful computer.
At a minimum, PC users should have a pentium processor and at least 16 MB of RAM.
Macintosh computers should have a PowerPC chip and 16 MB of RAM.
If your computer does not meet these requirements, it will probably have difficulty playing
even the small-size video clips. The large clips require even more processing power.
You should have at least a 28.8kbps modem. A 56k modem is better, and an ISDN modem is even better
than that. If you are connecting via an office network, then you do not need to worry about a
modem.
Problems Playing Video
If the video playback is jerky or if the audio is broken up, the most likely problem is that
your computer is too slow or does not have enough RAM.
Try exiting/quitting all of your other programs
to free up memory.
Remember that the larger video clips require a faster computer to play, so if you are having problems,
make sure you are playing the small size/low quality version of the clip.
If you represent a public televsion station and require further assistance, please send e-mail to
support@pbmnyc.com. Please include a description of
your computer (brand, processor, speed, memory), internet connection (modem speed, ISP), software
(including version numbers), and a detailed description of your problem.
